Today, I wanted to shine a spotlight on all the amazing foster parents out there, doing a very difficult job for not a lot of recognition. I’ve had a front row seat to one family’s experience fostering a child, and it has been inspiring and humbling. I watched my dear friends Sydney and Reese bring Abraham into their home at 6 weeks old, and love him unconditionally, even though there was no guarantee they would be able to adopt him. When they finally were able to adopt him 18 months later, it was a really beautiful and joyful day.
I hope you enjoy Sydney’s perspective on her experience as a foster parent:
Our foster to adoption story is relatively straightforward, but that doesn't make it less powerful. So many people stepped up to the plate to offer us prayers and support - from friends bringing us food and baby supplies in the early days, to a complete stranger donating a custom-made outfit for our son's adoption day, we have been overwhelmed and blessed by the outpouring of love for our family. I always understood that adoption was an example how God loves us, but it has also shown me the best picture of community - one that is rooted in the desire to build others up and support them in good times and the hard ones.
